Diogo Dalot will sign new Manchester United contract if he is guaranteed starting place next season
Manchester United star Diogo Dalot will sign a new contract at the club if he is guaranteed a starting place at the Old Trafford side next season, according to Spanish outlet Sport (h/t Mirror).
The Portugal international existing deal expires in the summer of 2023. As a result, the Red Devils are concerned about the 23-year-old’s future in Manchester.
However, Dalot is willing to put pen to paper and extend his stay if the defender is the first choice in the upcoming campaign. However, United are looking to buy a new right-back. Thus, it remains to be seen how the situation unfolds.
The Portuguese star signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2018 from FC Porto. But the 23-year-old mainly served as a backup in his debut campaign at the Old Trafford side.
However, in Dalot’s second season, he became a bit-part player under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Subsequently, the Portuguese moved to AC Milan on loan for the 2020/21 campaign.
Upon returning to Manchester for the following season, the right-back was again behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the pecking order. But his fortunes changed after Ralf Rangnick’s appointment.
The former interim head coach preferred the 23-year-old over the former Crystal Palace star in the starting lineup. He has continued to be the first choice at United under Erik ten Hag.
In the current campaign, Dalot has shouldered the burden of the right-hand side of the Red Devils’ defence. He has started in the majority of the fixtures for the Dutch manager.

Ten Hag seems to not favour Wan-Bissaka. So a new right-back is evidently required. However, the Old Trafford side should also convince the Portuguese star to stay at the club and help us get back to the top.
