Erik ten Hag ‘definitely’ considering Manchester United transfer for SL Benfica and Portugal forward Goncalo Ramos
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is ‘definitely’ considering a move for SL Benfica and Portugal star Goncalo Ramos, according to transfer insider Pete O’Rourke via Football FanCast (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils have been associated with the 21-year-old’s signature over the past week after his displays at the 2022 World Cup. After Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, the Old Trafford side are seemingly short up front.
As a result, the Manchester-based club are desperate to sign a new striker in the upcoming transfer window. And Ramos is a player who is liked by Ten Hag.
The Portugal international has had a breakout campaign with the Eagles this term. In the ongoing season, the 21-year-old has made 21 appearances for the Primeira Liga outfit in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and providing six assists.
In Qatar, Ramos showcased a glimpse of his talent with Portugal. Fernando Santos opted for the youngster over Ronaldo in the starting lineup in the round of 16 against Switzerland and he scored a hattrick.
The 21-year-old was also played ahead of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner in the quarter-final. However, the Euro 2016 winners lost 1-0 to Morocco.
At United, Marcus Rashford is currently our top goalscorer in the current campaign, with eight goals in all competitions. However, the 25-year-old still leaves a lot to be desired with his finishing.
Also, the Red Devils’ academy graduate is not a natural striker. Ten Hag has only one number-nine in the squad—Anthony Martial. Unfortunately, the France international has struggled with injuries this season.
