Inter Milan and Argentina striker Lautaro Martinez being eyed by Manchester United after Cristiano Ronaldo exit
Manchester United are eyeing Inter Milan and Argentina star Lautaro Martinez after the untimely departure of Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo, according to Fichajes via CaughtOffside (h/t Manchester Evening News).
With the 37-year-old’s exit from the Old Trafford side, the club are now looking for replacements. And the Serie A striker is one of the names on the Red Devils’ list.
However, interest in the 25-year-old is high, with Paris Saint-Germain also pursuing his signature. And considering the forward’s current deal with the Nerazzurri runs until the summer of 2026, he will not come cheap. And monetary demands could pose a hindrance to the Manchester-based club’s plans.
Martinez is currently on international duty with La Albiceleste in Qatar. Lionel Scaloni’s team took on Saudi Arabia in their opening Group C World Cup fixture. The 25-year-old played the whole game. However, the Green Falcon shocked spectators by beating Argentina 2-1.
The forward signed for Inter in the summer of 2018 from an outfit in his home country, Racing Club. Since then, the striker has gone from strength to strength and improved his goal contributions each year.
In the current campaign, Martinez has continued his fine form for the Serie A giants. In 21 appearances in all competitions, the 25-year-old has found the back of the net eight times and has provided six assists.
Marcus Rashford has been United’s talisman this season. The 25-year-old has predominantly played for the Red Devils in the number nine position. And with eight goals in all competitions for the club, he is our current top goalscorer.
Ronaldo’s influence in the squad had dwindled since the arrival of Erik ten Hag. And the Portuguese icon was unable to replicate the contribution he had in the team in the previous campaign.

However, the 37-year-old still was an option the Dutch manager used to call upon. And with Anthony Martial struggling to stay fit, it evidently becomes imperative for the Red Devils to sign someone like Martinez to bolster the front line.
