Roy Keane welcomes “good news” of the Glazers considering the sale of Manchester United

Manchester United icon Roy Keane has welcomed the development of the Glazers potentially selling the club as “good news”. He suggested that the Old Trafford side’s fans have got what they wanted.

The owners had released a statement recently stating that they had put the Red Devils up for sale. It comes after a 17-year period when Malcolm Glazer first took over the club in 2005.

Speaking on ITV (h/t Manchester Evening News) about the development, Keane, who had served as United captain for eight years, expressed his delight for the fans who have wanted the owners out for some time now.

“That’s good news for United fans, again, the last few years they’ve wanted [the] owners out, there’s been no relationship, they’re business people so it’s good news for the fans.”

The Glazers’ reign of the Old Trafford side has been associated with the club’s downfall in the last decade. Since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, we have not been competitive enough.

United have seen multiple managerial appointments since the Scottish icon’s departure. David Moyes, Louis van Gall, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tried and failed in their attempt to get us back to the top.

After the Norwegian manager’s departure, the Red Devils appointed Ralf Rangnick as interim head coach. And the German seemed to not have the backing of the club.

The Old Trafford side have also spent a considerable amount in the various transfer markets over the years. However, the planning and recruitment have evidently been shoddy.

We last won a trophy in 2016, lifting the Europa League title under Jose Mourinho. And since Ferguson’s retirement, the Manchester-based have failed to challenge for the Premier League trophy.

Erik ten Hag was appointed the United manager at the end of the previous campaign. And we seem to be going in the right direction under the Dutch manager. And the Dutch manager has been handed a few signings in the recent transfer window.

However, the gaffer will evidently need more time and investment in the squad. Thus, while the Glazers’ decision is the right one, some fans will be worried about whether the potential new owners will go down the same path.
