Milan Skriniar to sign four-year contract at Inter Milan amidst interest from Manchester United
Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar, who Manchester United are interested in, is set to extend his stay with the Nerazzurri and sign a new four-year contract, according to Foot Mercato (h/t Manchester Evening News).
Apart from the Red Devils, Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also eyeing the Slovakia international. However, it seems the 27-year-old is going to continue plying his trade in Serie A.
Skriniar signed for Inter in the summer of 2017 from Sampdoria. Since then, he has been a key figure in the backline of the Italian outfit.
The 27-year-old helped the Nerazzurri end their 11-year Scudetto drought in the 2020/21 season under Antonio Conte. And in the previous campaign, the Serie A giants beat Juventus in the final of the Coppa Italia to lift another trophy.
This season, Inter have not been at their best in the league under Simone Inzaghi. However, the Italians have had a good run in their Champions League group.
The Nerazzurri managed to pip Barcelona to second place in Group C and qualified for the knockout rounds. They will face FC Porto in the round of 16 of the prestigious European competition.
Erik ten Hag has preferred Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in the back four for United this term. The French and Argentine centre-backs have formed a solid partnership for the Red Devils.
However, since Varane signed for the club in the summer of 2021, injuries have consistently hampered his game time. And the Old Trafford side have missed the 29-year-old in the current campaign when he has not featured.

Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof do not seem to have the same understanding with Martinez that Varane has. Thus, some fans feel we need more quality in depth in the centre-back position. However, it does not look like we will be getting Skriniar anytime soon.
