Erik ten Hag reveals the reason for subbing off Manchester United ace Antony against Sheriff
Speaking in an interview after Manchester United’s win against Sheriff as quoted by BBC, Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has revealed the reason for subbing off Brazilian winger Antony and it is not because of the showboating.
Antony has received a lot of criticism for his showboating against Sheriff which ended up being very stupid for him in the end. He attempted his very famous turn from which absolutely nothing came off for the Brazilian.
The former Ajax Amsterdam man was taken off after this incident leading to speculation over whether Erik ten Hag chose to take him off due to his actions in this particular incident or if it was actually a pre-planned substitution.
Man United emerged 3-0 winners on the night in the Europa League, emerging 3-0 winners on the night thanks to goals from Diogo Dalot, Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo. This result meant that the Red Devils progressed to the next round of the competition.
Their aim now is set to be to meet Real Sociedad in the final matchday and hope to beat the Spanish side so that they are able to emerge out of the group stage as group winners and avoid playing the qualifying rounds.
Speaking about the substitution, Ten Hag seemed to hint that it was pre-planned and not really a last-minute decision due to Antony’s showboating.
“No. It was more or less planned if we were up. I wanted to see Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo close together and the dynamic on the right side”
Manchester United had an impressive performance last night which would make them feel really good. Slowly yet surely, we can see signs of the team improving under Erik ten Hag and it remains to be seen how it goes.
