Raphael Varane in individual training after derby injury ahead of Manchester United vs Omonia Nicosia
Manchester United centre-back Raphael Varane, who suffered an injury in the derby, is in individual training ahead of the UEFA Europa League fixture against Omonia Nicosia, according to Simon Peach, the chief football writer at PA Media, on Twitter.
The Red Devils take on the side from Cyprus on Thursday, 13 October. Omonia will visit Old Trafford after Erik ten Hag’s team managed to take three points from Neil Lennon’s team in the previous UEL fixture.
United managed to get the win in Cyprus with a 3-2 victory. The Red Devils went into the break against Omonia at the GSP Stadium a goal behind. However, the Old Trafford side managed a second-half comeback with goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
Varane was on the sidelines for the fixture in Cyprus. The 2018 World Cup winner picked up a knock in the 6-3 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. The 29-year-old had to be subbed off before half-time.
The former Real Madrid defender did come on in the final minutes against Everton at Goodison Park. And the 29-year-old proved pivotal as he made some crucial clearances in the dying minutes in the 2-1 victory.
Varane has been vital this season
Prior to the defeat in the derby, United had been solid at the back, with Varane and Lisandro Martinez striking up a partnership. The Red Devils had gone on a four-game winning run in the Premier League.
United have won every game the French defender has started this season except the one against City. The gaffer has favoured the 29-year-old over Harry Maguire.
Our captain has found game time hard to come by in the 2022/23 campaign. Maguire has lost his place in the team since the 4-0 loss to Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

It remains to be seen whether Varane is involved against Omonia. Hopefully, the gaffer rests the French defender and gives him time to recuperate for the other games United are set to play this month.
