Interest in Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos intensified by Manchester United
Manchester United have intensified their interest in Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos since the recent transfer window, according to Sportime (h/t The Sun).
The Red Devils were eyeing the Greek shot-stopper in the summer of 2022 as Dean Henderson joined Nottingham Forest on loan. However, the Old Trafford side ended up bringing Martin Dubravka to Manchester.
United have still been monitoring Vlachodimos this season. The 28-year-old has been impressive in the 2022/23 campaign, as Roger Schmidt’s team are yet to lose a game.
The Red Devils could bring Vlachodimos to Manchester to replace David de Gea. The Spaniard’s contract expires at the end of the season. But Benfica will want around £17.5 million for their star.
Vlachodimos is not the only shot-stopper United have an eye on. Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir and Dinamo Zagreb’s Dominik Livakovic are also on the Red Devils’ radar.
The Greek star has been with the Eagles since 2018 after signing from Panathinaikos. Since then, the 28-year-old has been the first-choice in goal for the Primeira Liga outfit.
De Gea has been the number one in between the sticks for United over the last couple of seasons. There was a point a few years back in the 31-year-old’s career with the Red Devils when fans wanted him out. However, the Spaniard has been one of our best players in recent months.
The former Atletico Madrid star has been pivotal once again under Erik ten Hag. He has made some brilliant saves throughout the season. However, there have been question marks around the Spaniard’s ability with the ball at his feet.
