Manchester United hero Andy Cole believes Marcus Rashford running in behind opposition defences has brought the best out of him. The former Red Devil feels the 24-year-old was not playing to his strengths previously.

Rashford seems to have found his feet under Erik ten Hag. In recent weeks, the England international has scored some crucial goals for the Old Trafford side.

However, the 24-year-old struggled for form in the previous campaign. Speaking to the club’s official website via Metro, Cole, who spent six successful seasons at United, feels Rashford has returned to playing the way he used to.

“He’s got the confidence back, scoring goals. I think he’ll be really happy with that.

“It’s the first time we’ve seen Marcus run in behind and stretch teams since he first got into the first team. I think he went away from his strengths, which was stretching teams.

“If you look at how he’s playing now to when he first got into the team, people will turn around and say, ‘that’s the Marcus Rashford of old’. If he sticks to that, he’ll score goals.”

The United academy graduate broke into the first team at the Old Trafford side’s starting XI in the 2016/17 campaign. And the 24-year-old went from strength to strength with each season.

In the 2019/20 campaign, Rashford had one of his best campaigns in a red shirt. The England international featured 44 times for the Red Devils in all competitions, scoring 22 goals and providing 12 assists.

Fans were expecting Rashford to lead the United frontline. However, the 24-year-old was underwhelming last season. As a result, the England international could not cement a place in the starting XI.

Thankfully, Rashford has found form in the current campaign. The 24-year-old has scored important goals against the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal. And the Red Devils have gone on a four-game win streak in the Premier League.

Since the Euro 2020 final against Italy, Rashford has not made the England squad. The Three Lions played their final two games before the World Cup in Qatar. Unfortunately, the forward was not part of Gareth Southgate’s list of players for the Nations League fixtures.
