Lisandro Martinez credits shift in mentality for wins after disappointing start to season at Manchester United

Manchester United centre-back Lisandro Martinez has credits a shift in mentality for the fine form after the disappointing start to the season. The Argentine is happy with the fighting spirit of the Red Devils.

United lost the first two competitive games of the Erik ten Hag era. The Red Devils suffered defeat at home to Brighton and Hove Albion and conceded four on the road against Brentford.

However, since then, United have found stability. And speaking via The Mirror, Martinez has credited the performances to the changing temperament and mood around the camp. The Argentine feels the Red Devils have put the fear back in the opposition.

“In the beginning, it was no good. It was not what we wanted. But we changed direction after Brentford. We changed the mentality, we changed the spirit.

“Then we did an amazing job against Liverpool and then we kept going and you can see now, every game the team is ready to fight.

“This is Manchester United, no? When the teams come to play in our stadium, they have to feel it wasn’t easy for them. So yeah, now we feel very well about it.”

Ten Hag was appointed United manager at the end of the 2021/22 campaign. The Red Devils ended last season on a sour note. And it seemed the team had carried that form into the Dutch manager’s reign.

However, United have managed to turn things around quickly. Ten Hag made some big decisions after the 4-0 loss to Brentford. Star players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw were dropped to the bench for the Liverpool game.

We managed to conquer the Merseysiders in the North West derby, beating them 2-1. Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford were on the scoresheet for the Red Devils.

Since then, the Dutch manager has kept the starting XI relatively unchanged in the Premier League. Lisandro Martinez has been a rock alongside Raphael Varane in the defence. And the Manchester-based club have won four games on the trot in the league.

United beat table toppers Arsenal in our last PL fixture and suppered their perfect start to the campaign. We were bottom of the table after matchday two. Now we sit just three points behind the Gunners, who sit in first place.

Martinez and the team have radiated energy and aggressiveness in the last few weeks. It has seemingly been pivotal for United in their impressive run of form. We will evidently need all of our fighting spirit as we face Manchester City after the international break.
