Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Marcus Rashford from Manchester United next summer
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is attracting interest from several clubs, including Atletico Madrid, according to Fichajes (h/t Manchester Evening News). The La Liga outfit are looking to get the 24-year-old next summer.
Rashford’s current contract with the Red Devils culminates in 2023. And Atletico could attempt to go after the England international’s signature then.
The 24-year-old has started the season on the front foot. Rashford has registered three goals and two assists in six Premier League games so far this season. The England international seems to have found his feet once again under Erik ten Hag.
In the previous campaign, Rashford looked off it. The 24-year-old seemed devoid of confidence whenever he played – either in the starting XI or when brought on from the bench. The academy graduate failed to make a considerable impact.
Rashford broke into the United first team back in the 2016/17 season and has become a key member of the Red Devils’ side over the years. Fans had high hopes as the 24-year-old was going from strength to strength. However, the previous campaign was one of his worst in a red shirt.
Anthony Elanga was preferred over Rashford by interim boss Ralf Rangnick towards the end of last season. The Sweden international brought energy to the side, which the England international evidently lacked.
Cristiano Ronaldo was the only attacking player in the United squad who lived up to expectations in the 2021/22 campaign. The Portugal international ended the season as our top goalscorer.
However, Ten Hag has preferred playing Rashford in the number nine position, leaving Ronaldo on the bench mostly. And the 24-year-old has repaid the faith, scoring against top sides like Liverpool and Arsenal.
