Manchester United no longer interested in Atletico Madrid forward Alvaro Morata
Manchester United have dropped their interest in signing Alvaro Morata from Atletico Madrid this summer, according to The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Express]. The Rojiblancos had put a price tag of £30 million on the Spaniard.
Morata’s agent approached the Red Devils with the opportunity to sign the 29-year-old. However, United passed on the opportunity to sign the Atletico centre-forward.
The Spain international has played for multiple top sides throughout his career. Starting at Real Madrid, Morata joined Juventus before returning to Los Blancos before eventually moving to Chelsea.
After a disappointing spell in London, the other big Madrid side managed by Diego Simeone signed the 29-year-old. He joined the Bianconeri on loan once again after a season in Spain.
Morata spent two campaigns with the Serie A giants before returning to Atletico. The Spaniard has 56 caps for his national side, scoring 26 goals.
United have been after attacking reinforcements this summer. The forward line is weak and lacked impact last season. Apart from Cristiano Ronaldo, none of our attackers performed well.
Now, the future of the Portuguese is uncertain in Manchester. It’ll be difficult for the club to replace his goals were the 37-year-old to leave United this summer.
The likes of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho failed to make an impact in the previous campaign. The English duo struggled for form. Their poor performances continued at the start of the new season. However, they turned up for the Liverpool game.

Morata isn’t the answer to our attacking woes and it’s wise of the club to drop their interest in him. The 29-year-old failed in his previous spell in England at Chelsea and struggled to score consistently. United require a prolific goalscorer and the Spaniard isn’t one.
