Memphis Depay on Manchester United radar as club willing to offer €10 million to Barcelona
Manchester United are thinking about signing Memphis Depay from Barcelona this transfer window, according to journalist Luis F Rojo via UtdDistrict on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils are seemingly looking to bolster their attack and the Holland international is considered an option. United could offer the Blaugrana €10 million for the 28-year-old. The former PSV Eindhoven star spent a season-and-a-half at the Manchester-based club after signing in 2015.
Barcelona are evidently looking to get rid of Depay this summer. The Catalan side had already reached an agreement to terminate the Holland international’s contract.
Currently, United’s forward line appears to be a bit understaffed. Erik ten Hag’s first game in charge of the Red Devils in a competitive match saw Christian Eriksen starting in the number nine position.
With Anthony Martial sidelined at the time, the Dutch manager opted to play the Demark international as the centre-forward. The French forward got injured during pre-season. Cristiano Ronaldo was left on the bench. The 37-year-old’s future is still uncertain. We lost 2-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Ronaldo did start the second fixture of the season against Brentford, but it was a game to forget for United fans. The Bees scored four past us in the first half, with the game ending 4-0.
In the season’s first two games, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho started and struggled to make an impact. However, on matchday three against Liverpool, the English duo put their best foot forward. They each scored a goal as the Red Devils saw off their fierce Merseyside rival’s 2-1.
Martial and Ronaldo were on the bench against Liverpool. Ten Hag started Anthony Elanga instead. The 20-year-old brought energy to the game. However, the Swedish forward is still young and has a lot of things to improve.
