Transfer News: Atletico Madrid cannot afford Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo
According to Marca (h/t Manchester Evening News), Atletico Madrid can not afford to sign talented Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United.
It is being claimed that the Spanish club cannot afford to pay Cristiano Ronaldo a reported £480,000 a week and hence they might be forced to pull out from the pursuit of the 37-year-old from Manchester United.
Atletico Madrid are said to be interested in signing the Man United striker this season but it now looks unlikely. One of the biggest talking points this summer is the future of Ronaldo which has been far from certain.
The Portuguese superstar joined the Red Devils from Juventus the previous summer and his return to Old Trafford has been rather mixed. Whilst his performances have not been bad, the club struggled last season.
Man United struggled to a sixth place finish in the Premier League whilst also failing to get past the Round of 16 in the Champions League to Atletico Madrid. They also failed to win either of the domestic cup competitions.
In 38 games for the Red Devils last season, the Man United man scored 24 goals and provided three assists across all competitions. These numbers are really impressive, especially for a 37-year-old striker.
Ronaldo has not yet turned up for pre-season training yet with Man United and in his absence, Anthony Martial has taken his chance and really impressed with the opportunities that Erik ten Hag has given him.
The former Real Madrid man might not have the match fitness to start the Red Devils’ season and if Martial continues his good form, it begs the question as to how Ronaldo will work his way back into the team.
