Manchester United have won their first match of this pre-season friendly against Liverpool by a 4-0 scoreline as Erik ten Hag guides his team to an emphatic result. The former showed signs of promise and the style of play that the manager wants to impose at Old Trafford in this fixture.

Jadon Sancho, Fred, Anthony Martial and Facundo Pellistri were on the scoresheet as Man United started their tenure under ten Hag with a hopeful performance indeed. The team has showcased that they can do quite well without Cristiano Ronaldo leading up from the front in this game.

Surprisingly enough, Eric Bailly had a great game as he was among the best players on the pitch today. Then again, it might not be a surprise as lack of availability that resulted in inconsistency was always his issue as he often struggled with recurring injury problems in the past few years.

Something to build upon for the future!

Sancho, meanwhile, has picked up his form from where he left it off last campaign as he was immense in this fixture. His presence in the wide areas always offers an outlet for the Red Devils when it comes to threatening their opponents with his skill and trickery.

Zidane Iqbal had huge expectations on his shoulders, but he has stepped up to the plate with a solid display indeed. The youngster stood out from the rest, with his composure on the ball being the most noticeable quality of his as he seems mature enough to play a role in the first team.

Ten Hag would have been delighted to see how things turned out, although proper context must be applied to this performance. Jurgen Klopp’s side heavily rotated their squad and even featured an unfamiliar lineup that lacked any chemistry. Even so, there are positives in this display that can be used to build toward a better future.

Ten Hag’s side started their riot very early, just after ten minutes, as Sancho found the bottom corner of the Reds’ net. Fred doubled the scoring around the half-hour mark with a cheek dink over the top, while Anthony Martial made it 3-0 after stealing the ball in the half-line and going solo to put it past Alisson Becker.

Lastly, Bailly started a brilliant counterattack late in the match as Pellistri netted the fourth of the day after a brilliant combination play with Amad Diallo. The Merseysiders had their fair bit of chances, but they could not make use of it, with Darwin Nunez’s miss being the highlight of their woes.
