Fabrizio Romano: Ajax are open to discussions with Manchester United regarding Lisandro Martinez
According to transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Manchester United are now confident about signing Lisandro Martinez as Ajax are open to discussion. He has been linked with a move to reunite with his former boss Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, which could now be on the cards following this latest development.
The Dutch side has been giving Man United quite some trouble recently, having increased Martinez’s valuation time and time again, with the latest being £50million. However, the English club seems to have made a breakthrough as Ajax are willing to negotiate a fair price at this moment.
Now, it is stated that both clubs could meet once again shortly regarding this potential move for the Argentine defender. He is pressuring the Eredivisie side to let him depart, which would certainly be of great benefit to the Red Devils when it comes to negotiations.
Man United to sign Martinez?
It remains to be seen if the Manchester board can take advantage of this new development to complete a move for the 24-year-old at the earliest. With Arsenal also being interested in Martinez, it would be in our best interests to make things quick to prevent our bitter rivals from making a case for themselves.
The last bid we made for the South American was around £43million, which is still short of his current asking price. Then again, with this latest update, perhaps the Amsterdam-based club would be ready to make a reasonable demand rather than what they are asking for right now.
In any case, only time will tell whether both parties can reach an agreement by comprising a bit in this saga. Reinforcing our backline is very important, considering how we shipped in a whopping 57 goals in the previous Premier League campaign.

That is not all, as our starters like Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane have not performed to their best either during that period. Signing Martinez would ensure that the trio will be forced to be on alert at all times leading to healthy competition for the centre-back spots.
We are also open to entertaining proposals for the likes of Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe and Eric Bailly this summer. Their potential departures would give more reasons to finalise a transfer for Martinez, so let’s hope to see that happen soon, with the pre-season officially starting today.
