Chelsea join transfer race for Bayern Munich star Serge Gnabry amidst Manchester United interest
According to The Guardian, Chelsea have entered the race to sign Bayern Munich star Serge Gnabry on a potential transfer this summer. As per The Sun, Manchester United have also registered their interest in securing Gnarby’s signature ahead of the upcoming campaign.
The Blues have turned their eyes towards Gnabry after seemingly losing out on Leeds United’s Raphinha to Barcelona. Rafael Leao of AC Milan is also on their transfer shortlist of alternative targets as Thomas Tuchel eyes players who can play in several different positions.
This news would come as a blow for Man United as they could use a right-winger in their ranks at this moment. Gnabry’s future is currently uncertain, with his current contract at Bayern Munchen expiring at the end of the next season.
Can Man Utd prise away Gnabry?
The right-hand side of the frontline is one of the areas where we are a bit short-handed at this point. After all, Ralf Rangnick had converted Jadon Sancho to the left-wing while Mason Greenwood is suspended indefinitely.
Other options like Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga are makeshift choices, plus they have not performed at their best in that position either. We have been pursuing Ajax’s Antony, but his ridiculous €80million valuation makes him undesirable indeed.
Gnabry is said to be valued in the region of £35million, which is quite a steal for a man of his qualities. That does explain why he has attracted so much interest, although that could be troublesome for us due to our current situation not making us a stable destination for the time being.
That being said, Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sports on Twitter via The Sun has revealed that moving to Stamford Bridge is not in the German winger’s mind due to his affiliation with the Gunners. That spells trouble for us should Mikel Arteta’s side actively pursue the forward this summer.

Even if a move to Emirates is not on the cards, Man City will pose stern competition due to the stature they have built in recent years. The 26-year-old’s versatility to play anywhere in the attack gives us another reason to target him should ten Hag decide to make the frontline flexible.
That being said, ten Hag has utilised Rashford on the left-hand side of the attack, with Sancho being on the opposite end during his training sessions, according to The Athletic. If that is the case, then we may not need to sign Gnabry at all, although it remains to be seen if that is the case or not.
