Serie A giants Napoli want to sign Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein Napoli have joined a handful of UEFA Champions League sides in the pursuit of Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo, a former Juventus and Real Madrid star, re-joined Manchester United in the summer of 2021 to much hype. At the time, the signing appeared to be a match made in heaven because the Red Devils were in desperate need of a capable goal scorer and he was joined by other players like Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.
Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford a year later has been terrible, to put it mildly. The Portuguese international has managed to perform at a high level scoring an impressive 24 goals across all competitions. Manchester United have not been as successful, failing to finish in the top four of the Premier League.
Thanks to that, Man United will not participate in any UEFA Champions League matches in the upcoming campaign. It might have been the major factor in convincing Ronaldo to want to quit Old Trafford this summer.
Meanwhile, Napoli, who had an outstanding start to life under Luciano Spalletti, have emerged as a surprise destination for the 37-year-old. Even though the Partenopei ultimately fell short of keeping up with the two Milan clubs, the club is committed to mounting a more formidable challenge in the upcoming campaign. They have also secured Champions League qualification which could act in their favour.
Apart from the Italian giants, PSG, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are doing their bit to attract one of the greatest players of all time to their teams.
If Ronaldo is allowed to follow Edinson Cavani out the exit door, we will be in desperate need to bring in a new striker in the coming weeks. So it seems sensible that the Mancunians would want to cling onto the talisman throughout this transfer window.
Additionally, we are in a dangerous situation right now since other positions, like midfield and defence, need to be strengthened. Losing Ronaldo would have just made things worse, which is the last thing we need right now.

It would be ideal for us if the English team gave the 37-year-old some assurances that they will be in better shape for the upcoming season. Fortunately, it appears that is in the plans, as Ten Hag is anticipated to speak with the forward to discuss the situation.
The former Real Madrid player is also concerned about the summer transfer market’s lack of activity. His concerns are absolutely justified because the supporters feel the same way about this.
Hence it would be best for United to concentrate more on luring top-quality players rather than focusing on other teams’ approaches to signing Ronaldo.
