Transfer News: Lisandro Martinez to choose between Manchester United and Arsenal

According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Lisandro Martinez is very clear that he wants to play Premier League football next season and will have to make a decision between two interested clubs.

Arsenal and Manchester United are both said to be interested in signing the talented centre-back from Ajax this summer. Whilst it is up to Martinez to choose where he wants to go, United will be hoping that they can convince the player due to his familiarity with ten Hag.

Lisandro Martinez has been a revelation for Ajax ever since his move from Defensa in 2019 and has only gone on to grow from strength to strength during this period. He has been one of Erik ten Hag’s most important players.

This season, Martinez was awarded ‘Ajax player of the year’ for his consistent performances throughout the season. The Argentinian has played 36 games for the Dutch champions scoring one goal and four assists across all competitions.

One of the biggest advantages for Lisandro Martinez is the fact that he is versatile enough to play in multiple positions. Equally adept at playing at centre-back, left-back and defensive midfield, the Argentinian offers a lot of flexibility to his manager.

Although a regular at the club level, Martinez is yet to crack the code in international football. On the fringes of the National team for quite some time now, the 24-year-old is unable to break the Christian Romero – Nicolas Otamendi partnership yet.

With the World Cup around the corner in a few months’ time, maybe a move to the Premier League will just be what Martinez needs to show Lionel Scaloni what he is capable of and fight for a place in the first team.

Pairing Lisandro Martinez alongside Raphael Varane could just be the ideal solution to Man United’s defensive woes. The Frenchman would be able to guide the 24-year-old and nurture him and help him develop.
