Manchester United face obstacles in the race to sign Inter’s Denzel Dumfries
According to Calciomercato, Even though Manchester United are pressing for the signature of Denzel Dumfries, Inter Milan doesn’t have any intention to let the Dutchman leave after just 1 season.
Manchester United allowed 57 goals last season, a record for them since the Premier League began. The need for significant adjustments in the defensive third of the field is something that new manager Erik ten Hag is fully aware of.
It is believed that Manchester United are interested in Inter’s Denzel Dumfries who had a decent 2021/22 season. However, the Red Devils aren’t alone in the race as Chelsea and Bayern Munich are also assessing the possibility and all three of them have ‘tested the ground’ with the Nerazzurri for the Dutchman.
Inter Milan paid €12.5m to secure his services, but his current price seems to have doubled following the impressive run and Inter Milan is in no mood to accept any proposal below the €30m mark.
Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries is a defender that Ten Hag is familiar with from his time playing in the Eredivisie. Additionally, the team has been keeping an eye on the aggressive right-back for some time. However, the likelihood that the Holland international will stay with the Nerazzurri is growing daily, thus it appears that interest may not pay off.
The 26-year-old played in 45 games across all competitions and contributed seven assists while scoring five times. The Rotterdam-born’s attacking talents have made him a mainstay for the Dutch national team. Furthermore, he can also play as a wing-back.
With four senior players currently available for selection, the Red Devils are well-stocked at left-back. But the right side appears to be skewed. Dalot is a competent fullback, but he is neither particularly strong in attack nor in defence. According to Fabrizio Romano, the new boss preferred to keep him over Aaron Wan-Bissaka since he is still young and has room to grow.
Although Wan-Bissaka’s defensive abilities could come to use, his damning ball controlling and passing skills might not be a great fit for Ten Hag’s system.

Dumfries would be the ideal choice if a quality player were ultimately needed to fill the vacancy. However, considering the aggressive interest from our rival Chelsea and Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, his prices can shoot through the roof. On top of that, Inter doesn’t seem pretty much interested to part ways with him this summer, which makes the possibility of the transfer even more unlikely.
