Transfer News: Napoli join Manchester United in the race to sign Paulo Dybala

According to The Guardian, Napoli have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Paulo Dybala on a potential move in the summer transfer window. He has attracted f attention from a host of parties due to the market opportunity it has presented at this moment.

Dybala is currently available on a free transfer after his contract with Juventus has expired. Man United have become alerted to this situation as they could get their hands on a world-class attacker without denting their transfer budget.

That being said, the Red Devils also face competition from Arsenal, who are in a similar boat right now. But Luciano Spalletti’s side has now entered the fray as well as they look to improve their attacking options, having fallen off in the Scudetto title race at the tail end of the previous season.

Antony replacement?

It is pretty well-known at this point how we have been pursuing Antony for quite some time. However, Ajax’s £70million price tag is just too much for our transfer budget as it amounts to £120million as of now. Hence, spending such a sum on the Brazilian is not wise when we have other areas to bolster.

Dybala, who is primarily a number ten but is usually played on the right-hand side of the frontline, would be a solid replacement indeed. After all, his ability to cut inside and create goalscoring opportunities and be a threat in terms of goals as well could prove to be useful for us.

The Argentine had 15 goals and six assists to his name last season from 39 matches across all competitions. That is a great return considering how he was played for Juve who have not been at their best for quite some time. Furthermore, he was also suffering from injuries at times which disrupted his flow during that period.

Signing the 28-year-old would be a great prospect in our current situation as we can save funds that can be used to strengthen other areas in our ranks. However, the main concern would be the injury issues that he has been suffering from occasionally in recent seasons.

As such, if we can secure the South American’s services on reasonable wages after accounting for his injury troubles, then we could have a great deal at hand. However, the added competition from I Partenopei could be problematic, with Mikel Arteta’s side also being a roadblock.

In any case, we must assess the matter first with Erik ten Hag and see whether Dybala would suit his plans in our current situation. While we would lose out on Antony, the former Bianconeri man would still be an improvement on our current set of makeshift options like Anthony Elanga or Marcus Rashford.
