Arsenal willing to increase transfer bid for Manchester United target Lisandro Martinez
According to Daily Mail, Arsenal are willing to increase their bid for Ajax star Lisandro Martinez, who is a transfer target for Manchester United. Both English clubs are battling it out with each other to get hold of the centre-back to bolster their ranks ahead of the upcoming season.
Man United and the Gunners have both made proposals worth £38million to Ajax for securing Martinez’s services. However, the former has a slight edge as they have offered more upfront as they look to use his connection with Erik ten Hag and the better bid to gain an advantage.
However, Mikel Arteta’s side are still in the mix even now as they are now ready to raise their offer for Martinez. He is eager to move to the Premier League and is hoping that the Eredivisie side would respect the gentleman’s agreement and allow him to leave in the summer transfer window.
Can Man Utd see off Arsenal pressure?
It is pretty evident at this point how we cannot afford to go this summer without bringing in reinforcements in the central defensive position. After all, shipping in 57 goals in the 2021-22 Premier League campaign is not ideal at all, which has put us in a precarious situation.
Hence, we must improve our current set of options with starters like Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane failing to perform to their best last time around. Others like Axel Tuanzebe, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are free to leave this summer, giving us all the more reason to target Martinez.
We are still short of the Dutch outfit’s £43million asking price for Martinez at this moment. However, the North Londoners are looking to increase their bid, so it will be interesting to see whether they will match that valuation to improve their proposal close to that amount.

The 24-year-old is said to have a gentleman’s agreement with the Amsterdam-based club that they will allow him to leave for a bigger club that comes with a substantial offer. He believes the current proposals on the table fall into that category, which means that an exit could be on the cards after all.
As such, we simply cannot allow Arteta’s team to win this pursuit ahead of us. After all, signing the South American would ensure that we can improve our defence while preventing our direct rivals from being strengthened in the process as well. Whether we can succeed in our attempt to sign Martinez or not would only be known in due time.
