Marcus Rashford takes a stance on his Manchester United future under new manager Erik ten Hag

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford will take a call on his future at the club after sitting down with incoming new manager Erik ten Hag at the end of the campaign.

The Dutchman has been announced as the new head coach of the first team and will take over from Ralf Rangnick when the interim boss’ tenure expires in the summer. ten Hag will officially replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the next permanent manager of the side.

The 52-year-old is currently in charge of Ajax Amsterdam, who are looking to seal a hat-trick of Eredivisie titles under their manager before his impending departure. He has already led them to back-to-back league titles previously, along with a few domestic cup competitions.

United meanwhile, have been enduring a disastrous campaign as they look to be missing out on a top-four finish this season in the Premier League, while also ending the year without winning any silverware, further extending their trophy drought.

Clarity on the role after ten Hag arrival

Rashford has been one of the players who have suffered along with the club this term, putting in underwhelming performances and often being overlooked by Rangnick for games due to his current form. The German has insisted that the reason for Rashford not getting more game time is down to his performances in training not translating on the pitch on matchdays.

That has not deterred the 24-year-old from training hard in a professional capacity, and it is said that he is looking forward to next season as he wants to gain greater clarity on the intended role ten Hag has in mind for him. The player is keen on working with the Dutchman from next term, despite considering his future at his boyhood club earlier in the campaign.

Fans will be glad to hear about Rashford’s intention of sticking on at the Theatre of Dreams after he came through the ranks at the academy at Carrington and broke into the first team as an exciting attacking option.

It is never easy saying goodbye to an academy graduate, let alone a crowd favourite, after all the moments he has provided supporters over the years. Still only 24, the attacker has lots more to offer and it will be a relief to fans to know that they can continue to see the player don red in the coming years.

Rashford’s sudden change of heart to look for other opportunities earlier this campaign can be understood, given that he only started 12 Premier League games all season. At a time when first-choice strikers Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani were injured, the Englishman was still overlooked.

He seemed to have accepted that he is no longer an integral part of Rangnick’s plan, but he is now keen on working with ten Hag in the coming months. We can hope that the Dutchman’s arrival changes both the club’s and Rashford’s fortunes from next season.
