Manchester United want Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen as new manager Erik ten Hag plots transfer plan
According to the Daily Star, incoming new manager Erik ten Hag is plotting a transfer move for Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen in the upcoming transfer window, as he prepares to make changes to the Manchester United squad.
ten Hag, who is currently in charge of Ajax Amsterdam, will take over the club in the summer after interim boss Ralf Rangnick steps down from the manager’s seat when his tenure expires at the end of the season.
A massive rebuild is expected at Old Trafford in the summer transfer window to turn the side into world-beaters once again and compete for silverware. The English side is going through a trophy drought at the moment, with their last title coming in 2017 when they won the UEFA Europa League.

Given the massive task ahead of him, ten Hag is said to have identified Eriksen as the perfect signing in the summer to kickstart his intended revolution in Manchester and get the club firing once again. The midfielder is currently plying his trade for Brentford, with whom he signed a short-term deal in January.
Eriksen on summer wishlist
The Dutchman has the 30-year-old on his transfer wishlist, after being impressed with him when the player was training with Ajax at the beginning of the year. After he suffered a cardiac arrest at the UEFA 2020 Euros with Denmark, Eriksen continued his recovery by working with his former employers in Amsterdam, in an effort to return to professional football.
Although the Holland side considered re-signing the Dane, there were fears over his medical condition and whether he could still shine at the highest level. His performances at Brentford have proven that Eriksen has still got that magic touch, and has now made ten Hag optimistic about persuading him to join the manager at Old Trafford.
Having only signed a short-term deal with Brentford, Eriksen is available in the summer as a free agent when his current contract with the English side expires. For a player of his quality, it would be a steal to get him without having to spend a penny.

With enough Premier League experience under his belt playing for Tottenham Hotspur previously, the Denmark international would make a great fit at United, where midfield has been a weak link for years now.
Bruno Fernandes has been woeful since the beginning of 2022, and with Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata expected to leave in the summer once their deals at United expire, we will be in need of some quality attacking midfield options.

ten Hag seems intent on making wholesale changes to the squad to improve our current situation, and signing a player of Eriksen’s repute would make for a great step forward in setting up our new-look side next season. And it was at ten Hag’s current club- Ajax- where Eriksen made his name to begin with.
And at Eriksen’s age, he wouldn’t really be a long-term solution nor would many fans expect him to be a regular starter for the club- a bracket that includes the likes of David de Gea, Harry Maguire, and Bruno Fernandes. But what he does add is depth, quality, and creativity in this Man United midfield, which the club can certainly use next season if they sign the Dane.
