Flamengo consider giving up on the signature of Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira
According to O Dia’s Venê Casagrande (h/t Sports Witness), Flamengo are evaluating their deal for Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira and are considering the possibility of backing out. This is very surprising considering the fact that this signing was almost wrapped up a couple of months ago.
It is believed that the Brazilian club delayed the purchase due to several reasons and are now being pressured by their board to not go through with this signing. The 26-year-old midfielder has a buy-out option of €20 million whereas it is understood that the Red Devils were willing to let go of him for half that price.
It is thought that the clubs not only agreed on a transfer but also exchanged documents with the side from Rio de Janeiro also keeping social media posts ready. This makes the dynamic of this saga even more confusing.
End of the road for Pereira?
The Brazilian midfielder has been with us since a young age playing 75 matches scoring four goals and providing five assists for the Red Devils across all competitions to date. Pereira has been largely underwhelming in recent seasons playing 516 minutes for Paulo Sousa’s men this campaign without being able to bag a single goal or assist.
The Mancunian club has suffered from bouts of inconsistency through the last few years and it seems as though another rebuild could be on the cards. The Brazilian international who was once touted as the torchbearer of the midfield at Old Trafford has over the past few years slowly faded into oblivion.
At 26, Andreas Periera still has a few good years if he genuinely wants to resurrect his professional career. Mind you, this is a task that is easier said than done but it seems highly unlikely for such a pivot to happen whilst he is still at Manchester United.
Bruno Fernandes who plays in the same position as the Brazilian has made that role his very own at Man Utd. Donny van de Beek who is currently out on loan has also shown that he is more than capable of filling in should the need arise.

The recent development could be a big blow for us, if the Red Devils were genuinely interested in shipping the Brazilian midfielder. Should the deal fall through, Pereira could get another opportunity to make his mark at Old Trafford but that is a mammoth task considering the spread of options we have in the middle of the park
