Transfer News: Fabrizio Romano confirms Manchester United loanee Anthony Martial is expected back at the club in the summer
According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Manchester United loanee Anthony Martial is expected to return to his parent club in the summer once his loan spell at Sevilla is completed.
The Frenchman had moved to the La Liga side in the winter transfer window in January until the end of the season after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford, hardly getting any first-team minutes as other forwards were preferred over him.
With the club re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo last year, Martial saw his game time curtailed severely, dropping behind Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford in the competition to lead the line for the team.
Martial was last seen playing for Sevilla in their La Liga fixture against Real Sociedad at home. Despite starting the game for his new side, he was hooked before the hour mark to make way for his replacement up front, as the Spanish side ended the game in a drab 0-0 draw.
No talks about Martial
Romano confirmed that Los Nervionenses did not have a buy option in the loan agreement for the France international, which means that he is due to return to his parent club when his temporary deal with the Andalusian side expires in the summer.
However, despite there currently being no discussions or talks to keep the 26-year-old in Spain for another season, the door seems to be slightly ajar regarding Martial’s future at Sevilla as the club will only make a final decision about the player in May.
After a superb start to life in England by scoring a goal on his debut in front of the Stretford End against arch-rivals Liverpool in a 3-1 win, the former Monaco man has not hit the same heights in his United career since.
He would later see himself lose out on the starting striker spot to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, Rashford, Cavani, and now Ronaldo, as the Frenchman struggles to nail down the position for himself. This is largely due to the player being inconsistent in his performances for the side, with Martial not being known to be the most reliable goalscorer we have at our disposal.

A move to Sevilla was perhaps targeted as a way to earn a move to Spain and kickstart his career once again, but it does not seem to have worked out for him so far. However, with the La Liga side expected to only take a final decision in May, the striker still has time to impress them and get a permanent transfer away from England to play more regularly.
With the 2022 World Cup in Qatar drawing closer, Martial is sure to have an eye on making the plane to the Middle East with the France national team. If so, he needs to buck up and start producing at Seville, not only to impress his national side’s manager, but also the Spanish side’s boss to earn a move in the summer.
