Manchester United suffer blow as Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino willing to stay at the club
According to French outlet L’Equipe (h/t The Sun), Manchester United are set to suffer a blow in their attempts to sign Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino as their new permanent boss in the summer, with the Argentine set to stay at the club.
Ralf Rangnick is currently in charge of the club on an interim basis until the end of the season, tasked with guiding the side to a top-four spot and ensuring that they play Champions League football next term.
Once the German’s tenure is up in the summer, a new permanent manager is expected to take charge of the side, ushering in a new era at Old Trafford that hopefully brings back the glory days and silverware to Manchester.
Pochettino was appointed by PSG last year, after he was in charge of Tottenham Hotspur for five years in the Premier League and led them to league cup finals and a Champions League final run. Prior to his Spurs spell, he was in charge of Southampton.
Conditions to stay
After being heavily linked to the United job, Pochettino seems to have given his conditions to stay at the Parc des Princes beyond the summer by stating that he wants the club to be in the best position to go on and win the Champions League in the future.
For the UCL triumph dream to take shape in the future, the Argentine requires more of an input on certain decisions regarding the club’s strategy going forward, with the manager being involved in all these decisions.
This season’s Champions League came to a heartbreaking end for Pochettino and his men after being knocked out by Real Madrid in the Round of 16, despite taking a 2-0 lead on aggregate at one point in the tie.
The UCL is something that the Paris outfit have been vying to win for years now, with Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel taking them closest to the trophy, losing out in the final. If Pochettino stays, then the onus will be on him to take them to European glory.

Given the manager’s Premier League experience with Spurs and Saints, the Argentine was a heavy favourite to replace Ragnick in the summer. However, recent news suggests that Pochettino seems to be keen on staying in Paris, provided that PSG fulfil his conditions.
Given that he has not explicitly said that he will stay in France next season, there can still be hope about the Red Devils looking to bag him as their own ahead of the new campaign. Only time will tell whether we can watch him take the manager’s seat at Old Trafford.
