PSG want to sign RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku amidst Manchester United interest

According to the German source Bild (h/t The Express), PSG are looking to facilitate a return for RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku amidst interest from Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window. He has been terrific this season, and his performances have not been overlooked, having received the call-up to the senior national team.

Man United have maintained their stance to sign Nkunku after this season. Moreover, it is also touted that they have a “very hot” interest to secure his signature, with Ralf Rangnick being a keen admirer of the attacker. After all, it was Rangnick who prised the forward away from Paris Saint-Germain in the first place when the boss was at Leipzig.

It seems that the Red Devils could target the Frenchman this summer following up on Rangnick’s approval. That being said, they would need to deal with the Ligue 1 side who are “in the picture” at this moment. However, it is claimed that it would take offers of around £63.1million to even convince the German club to part ways with their talisman.

Nkunku to Man Utd or PSG?

The 24-year-old striker has been absolutely on fire this campaign, having scored a whopping 26 goals with 15 assists alongside it from 38 appearances across all competitions. That is a ridiculous output, and it is no wonder why we are monitoring his situation at this instant.

While the Bundesliga star’s form is a great sign for us, it has some drawbacks as his price tag is likely to increase moving forward. Not to mention, the breakthrough into the France national team under Didier Deschamps could also have an effect. We also cannot rule out the possibility that more clubs could enter the race just like the Paris based giants.

The Leipzig star has a contract until 2024, which means that his current club will be in control during negotiations. As such, the Manchester club may have to give in to their demands if they end up bidding for the centre-forward this summer transfer window.

Our current squad situation could force our hands as there are some concerns regarding our forward options next season. Edinson Cavani, for example, is out of contract and is expected to leave this summer, whereas Anthony Martial’s and Mason Greenwood’s future are in uncertain waters right now.

Marcus Rashford has struggled with his form for a while and is supposedly unhappy with his lack of game time. A departure could be on the cards if this situation continues with his contract being up in 2023. Not to mention, we also need someone to take over the reins from Cristiano Ronaldo moving forward.

Nkunku can be that man, but it is up to the board and our new manager to decide over the prospect of signing him or not. Hence, we must wait and see how our pursuit would develop in the coming months ahead of the summer transfer window.
