Manchester United to step up the search for their next permanent manager during the international break

According to ESPN, Manchester United are looking to use the upcoming international break to ramp up their search for a new manager to lead the team from the 2022-23 season. The club officials are keen to find a solution at the earliest so that they can schedule their transfer plans for the summer.

Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino are the favourites to land the managerial job at Old Trafford ahead of next term. Man United expressed their intentions to them beforehand but had kept their contacts informal as their respective clubs were involved in the Champions League. Now that Ajax Amsterdam and Paris Saint-Germain are out of the competition, the English club have been backed to push forward with their pursuit to sign a new man in charge.

The Red Devils are also keeping tabs on Thomas Tuchel as well, following the uncertain situation that has unravelled at Chelsea. The UK Government’s sanction on Roman Abramovich has cast the German’s future into doubt, but there have been no signs that he would leave Stamford Bridge. Spain’s Luis EnriqueJulen Lopetegui of Sevilla and Real Madrid’s  Carlo Ancelottiare also in the fray.

An appointment soon?

It is imperative that the Red Devils are efficient in their search in the coming months. We cannot waste too much time as we need to get rid of this managerial uncertainty so that we can push forward with our recruitment plans. After all, our transfers would depend upon the new coach and bringing in players without signing someone as the new boss would not make sense.

As such, it is good to know that we are looking to take advantage of this break to make our case with our shortlisted options. Apart from Enrique, the rest of them have affiliations at the club level, and this period would help them to have some time to engage in talks with us.

Ten Hag should be the obvious choice after taking all factors into consideration. He has done a great job at Amsterdam despite their recent exit from the Champions League. Pochettino is a solid option, but questions can be raised against his limitations which were highlighted at Tottenham Hotspur and now at PSG.

Enrique can probably be ruled out with the 2022 Qatar World Cup nearing day by day. Lopetegui is another solid choice, having done a great job with Sevilla so far. He also enjoyed a great spell with the Spanish national team, but his time at Santiago Bernabeu was complicated by several factors.

Ancelotti is claimed to be a short term option, so we cannot go down that route at all. We need stability to build towards a better future, and Los Blancos boss would not offer us what we need. Let’s hope that the management would be able to put behind their mistakes and bring in someone who has the capabilities to help us return to our glory days.
