Inter Milan are considering a move for Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t Express), Inter Milan could be looking to make a swoop for Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan international is set to be out of contract with the Red Devils at the end of the season and his chances of staying at the club post that period are very slim.

The former PSG hitman has played a crucial role for the Mancunian club whenever called upon. His experience has been a great asset for us, having contributed to key moments from time to time, especially during last season. But the Old Trafford outfit may now have to part ways with Cavani as the Nerazzurri look on with keen eyes.

The 35-year-old striker has bagged 19 goals and provided seven assists in 56 matches across all competitions for Manchester United so far. That being said, the former Palermo ace is much more than just the summation of these stats.

His ability to glide into spaces and his awareness in the final third of the pitch has always been an asset for every club he has played for. Despite these growing traits, Cavani has struggled with injury issues this campaign, having only played 761 minutes across all competitions for the Red Devils this season.

What’s ahead for Cavani?

One could argue that at 35, the Uruguayan striker is now headed into the twilight of his footballing career. Cavani has proved his worth at the elite level at clubs like Napoli and PSG and alongside him, the Red Devils possess another veteran striker amongst their ranks in the form of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Whilst the striking duo has an exceptional level of experience for club and country, they have at times struggled to maintain the intensity demanded by interim manager Ralf Rangnick over the entire period of the season. The club could therefore do well to recruit a young striker with an eye towards the future.

Apart from PSG, Cavani has played a major chunk of his career in Serie A. He could thus find it comparatively easier to acclimatize himself to the demands of the Italian league. This coupled with the apparent rise of Inter Milan could be a lethal duo, should things work out in their favour.

His professionalism could also have a great impact in any dressing room and Inter Milan, the defending Serie A champions, could well be making a potentially useful signing in the form of the experienced South American superstar. Cavani has given us some memorable moments and his workrate off the ball is something many managers would want their number 9s to replicate.

More Manchester United

While it is unlikely that we may see him at Old Trafford next season, the fans should have no qualms with respect to the determination and effort he gave onto the pitch while wearing the Man Utd jersey.

He will go down as one of the most shrewd signings we have made up front in the post-Alex Ferguson era- even if his career at Old Trafford does not exceed 2 years.
