Joe Cole urges Manchester United to sign John McGinn over Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice

Speaking in the post-match discussion on BT Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Joe Cole has advised Manchester United to sign John McGinn over the likes of Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice. The Red Devils are desperate for some midfield signings in the upcoming transfer windows as they look to attain stability in the middle of the pitch.

Man United recognise their issue in midfield and have declared it as a priority situation that needs to be taken care of moving forward. Bellingham and Rice are two of the options on their shortlist, but Cole believes they must not sleep on McGinn.

Cole believes that the Red Devils are desperate for players like McGinn who just get on with what they have to do on the pitch. The former English playmaker illustrated his point by highlighting the off-the-field ruckus that has been associated with them in the past few weeks.

“Especially for Manchester United, you look at that club and you constantly hear noises about this player is unhappy because the manager said this and this player’s unhappy because he’s been given time here and he didn’t want it and all this. You just want lads like him [McGinn] through the door. First of all, they have to be good enough and he’s certainly good enough as a footballer but that is so valuable for a manager in the current climate. He’s not an Instagram footballer, he gets on with it and does his job.”

Absolutely right!

We have to completely agree with the ex-Blues midfielder regarding the lack of players who would not be engaged in antics on social media. The recent examples of Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are such examples as both of them took a swipe at Ralf Rangnick for different reasons.

The 27-year-old Villa star is well known for the way he carries himself as a leader who can influence others in the squad. That has earned him admiration from Sir Alex Ferguson, which is always a stellar recommendation in itself. Moreover, he is an excellent midfielder as well and has played a crucial role under Steven Gerrard this season.

More Manchester United News

Man United have lacked players with a strong mentality, especially those who don’t just play well but inspire others around them to improve. The Scottish international falls into that category and is a powerhouse in attack and defence. He would do wonders for us as we lack a dynamic presence in the middle of the park.

David Moyes has made it clear that Rice would be expensive, whereas Bellingham has more than three years left in his contract with Borussia Dortmund. As such, the Villa ace is already a proven Premier League talent and would not be a bad choice at all. Whether The Red Devils will heed Cole’s advice remains to be seen.
