Manchester United add Spain boss Luis Enrique to their manager shortlist
According to ESPN, Manchester United have included Spain boss Luis Enrique in the shortlist for the permanent managerial position at Old Trafford. He has done a great job so far with the national team in rebuilding them ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup that is set to take place later this year.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag of Ajax are the two other options who are considered for the role. Several others are also in the fray for the position, although the three mentioned above are the main candidates ahead of the next season.
Chief executive Richard Arnold and the Glazers have prepared the list themselves as they look to find someone who can guide them towards success. They are attracted to Enrique because of the stature he built when managing some of the heavyweights in the famous Barcelona side. His attacking style of football is another factor that makes him an attractive proposition to succeed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
A smart choice?
The 51-year-old would be a great option for us, but it will be difficult to see us prise him away, especially when the World Cup is set to take place later this year. He shut down rumours linking him to the Red Devils job back in November by stating that it was April Fool’s Day.
The former Barca boss is tied down until the Word Cup ends, making it challenging for us to get his services. Nonetheless, we should see whether there is a chance as similar incidents have happened in the past after all. One such example is Julen Lopetegui, who left the Spain national team just before the 2018 World Cup to join Real Madrid.
Ronald Koeman had also left the Netherlands national team to join the Blaugrana side just before the 2020 Euros. If such things have happened before, there is a possibility that a similar incident can occur in the future as well. So we should not let up and try our best to get the Spaniard if possible.

Enrique proved his worth when he managed big personalities at Camp Nou to achieve the treble in his first season as a manager. With Spain, he transformed a declined team into one of the favourites by using the youngsters who have come up in recent times. That makes him a well-rounded option for us as the situation in our camp would be a mix of it as well. It remains to be seen if we can bring him to Old Trafford or not, but we do hope that is the case ahead of next season.
