Transfer News: Man United target Ronald Araujo reveals stance on Barcelona future

Transfer News: Manchester United target Ronald Araujo tells Xavi Hernandez he wants Barcelona stay

According to the Spanish publication Sport, Manchester United target Ronald Araujo has assured Xavi Hernandez that he wants to stay with Barcelona moving forward. The defender has been subjected to a lot of talks recently due to the interest he has attracted as a result of his performances and expiring contract.

Araujo is in line to enter the final year of his current contract at the end of this season. That has alerted Man United and Chelsea to put him in their shortlists if an opportunity arrives their way. That being said, there is a strong belief within Camp Nou that he will extend his deal with them through a renewal.

The Uruguayan defender and Barca are getting closer to agreeing over an extension day by day, which would create concerns for the Red Devils. That is made worse by this latest update as he expressed his desire to stay with them for more seasons. Moreover, the recent contract offer on the table would tie him down until 2027, which will put an end to the interest from elsewhere.

Time to look elsewhere?

If this piece of information is believed to be true, then we might be forced to look elsewhere for our defensive option. The 22-year-old would have been a great prospect financially and sporting wise as well, looking at the circumstances. However, with the central defender’s desire and a renewal getting closer by the day, we may be wasting our time trying to pursue him.

The Blaugrana superstar has quickly made himself a name after achieving promotion into the first team. He has become a starter for the Catalans in a short period and looks to be a world-class centre-back in the making. Moreover, he has not even achieved his full potential, indicating that he could be among the best in the future.

The La Liga defender would have been perfect for us since Harry Maguire has struggled with his form throughout this season. That was the case in our recent 1-1 draw against Burnley, where he was partly at fault for their equaliser. Phil Jones and Eric Bailly need to be moved out eventually since they cannot be depended on for longer.

We also cannot take advantage of the release clause in the Uruguay international’s contract in case of an extension as it is set at €200million. There has been no confirmation from any reliable sources, which means that there is a chance of this news being false. As such, it will be best on the club’s part to keep monitoring the situation in case of a breakdown in the coming months.
