Fabrizio Romano: Everton reach loan agreement with Manchester United for Donny van de Beek, player to decide future shortly

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Everton have reached an agreement with Manchester United to sign Donny van de Beek on a loan transfer. The attacking midfielder is looking likely to leave Old Trafford after he has failed to garner enough minutes under Ralf Rangnick.

The Toffees have an agreement in place with Man United to get Van de Beek on a straight-up loan deal for the remainder of the season. They have also agreed to take over his entire wages until next summer but are yet to find common ground with the player himself.

Crystal Palace are in the fray, and the final decision over his next destination will be taken by the 24-year-old shortly. Everton are currently without a permanent manager after Rafael Benitez’s sacking, but that could change soon, with Frank Lampard linked with the Toffees job.

Everton or Crystal Palace?

The Dutchman’s time under Rangnick was more or less the same as it was under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Despite Paul Pogba’s injury, the ex-Ajax ace always remained on the fringes of the starting XI. And thus, it is a wise decision on the club’s part to move him out temporarily for the greater benefit of all parties.

The deal with the Merseyside club is a sound financial decision as our wage bill would be relieved of the Man United star’s £107,000-a-week salary for a while. Everton have been going through a horrid phase recently as they find themselves 16th in the league table.

We would want the Dutch international to fare well during his loan spell so having a stable environment would do him a lot of good. Palace, on the other hand, are faring well under Patrick Vieira. The Arsenal legend has built an exciting team at Selhurst Park and Conor Gallagher, loaned in from Chelsea last summer, has been excellent in the middle of the park.

Man United would be hoping for van de Beek to encounter a similar turn of events where he can find his feet elsewhere before returning to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils midfielder was out on the stands even when Paul Pogba was injured for a long time. With the former Juventus superstar nearing his return with each passing day, it would have been even more difficult for him to get game time in the coming months.

Moreover, the German manager is at the wheel on an interim basis so we may have a different manager following the end of this season. This loan move could help van de Beek prove his worth to whoever is in line to replace Rangnick- if there is one- and also knock on the Netherlands national team’s door once again before the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
