Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Bruno Lage sends warning to Manchester United over Ruben Neves
According to the Metro, Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Bruno Lage has sent a warning to Manchester United regarding the potential transfer of midfield ace Ruben Neves. The Old Trafford outfit are in the market for a midfielder as they try to solve the imbalance in their squad.
Man United are preparing a bid worth £35million as they try to initiate a move for the Portuguese star this month or at the end of this season. However, Lage is adamant that they would not sell one of their key players as they are keen to keep hold of them to try and improve the squad moving forward. But he did add that they could be open to entertaining interest if they receive an irrefutable offer for the midfielder’s services.
The main point is to continue with the same players, try to improve them and go to the next level. If one big transfer appears, you cannot say no. Or you can say no but you have to balance it. Do you receive the money and use it to improve the team, or do you continue with the same players?
Roadblock?
The offer that we are preparing seems low considering how Neves has a contract with the Wolves until 2024. Not to mention, he has been sensational for them over the past few years in the Premier League. As such, it would be puzzling if they would accept a bid around that region from our end.
The Wanderers boss has suggested that they would not entertain a transfer bid in that region which further backs it up. Our problems in midfield are massive, and we have to prioritise solving that as soon as possible. That means we have to be aggressive with our offers for him if there are no other targets lined up for a future move.
But if the board decides to raise their offer, they must make sure not to cross the line and overpay for the Portugal international. We have made that mistake in the past, so we should use that experience as a learning lesson to not repeat it again. Even if the bid is a bit expensive than what is currently mentioned, we could earn that back looking at the long term benefits he would bring to our team.

Nemanja Matic is not getting any younger, whereas Scott Mctominay and Fred have their limitations playing in a double pivot. Adynamic addition in midfield can help ease those concerns. Time will tell how our interest in the Wolves ace would develop and whether they would hold a rigid stance on his future or not.
