Real Madrid drop interest in Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba for Ajax star Ryan Gravenberch
According to Rudy Galetti of Calciomercato (h/t The Sun), Real Madrid have dropped their interest in Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba to focus their attention on the Ajax starlet Ryan Gravenberch. Pogba looks to be on the way out of Old Trafford due to his current contract situation.
The 28-year-old will see his contract with Man United expire at the end of the current season. There has been no progress over an extension, meaning he would likely leave the club at the end of this campaign. Real were initially interested in signing him but have turned their attention towards Gravenberch.
Clubs like Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona have been keeping tabs on the Red Devils star as they look to prise him away in the future. The 19-year-old had previously attracted interest from the Manchester club following his rapid rise to the top in the previous season.
Pogba dealt blow?
The subject of the France international has always divided the fanbase, which would probably be the case right now as well. We need players who will give everything to help us get over the current plight and be a part of the project that we are building currently under Ralf Rangnick. For that reason, there are doubts whether he would fall into that category if he has not signed a new deal so far.
The World Cup winner is a man full of quality, but we do not need those who have doubts over their future at the club. He would have been a crucial part of the system under Rangnick, but his current stance tells us why we should look at life past him. We have more glaring issues to work on rather than focusing our attention on the needs of one player.
We have turned over a new page after sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and do not need any more baggage moving forward. It always seemed like the sporting objectives were pushed aside by the constant drama that unravelled in the past. That has played a part in our decline, looking at the current condition that we are going through.

The best that we can do is to find clubs that would pay a fee for the United star this month. We have already incurred a lot of cost on him through the transfer fee, wages and other expenses. Losing him potentially on a free would leave a poor taste in the mouth.
Even if the France superstar agrees to sign an extension, one could question whether he has the drive to put in that extra effort for us. A lot of things have gone wrong for us for the past decade, but it is time that we look forward rather than dwelling on the past and hoping for a better outcome.
