Manchester United receive transfer boost as Real Madrid reject demands of Antonio Rudiger
According to the Spanish news outlet ABC (h/t The Sun), Manchester United have been handed a boost in the transfer race to sign Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger as Real Madrid refused to accept his signing-on fee demands. He has turned into one of the most dominant defenders in world football after Thomas Tuchel helped him to revive his career at Stamford Bridge.
Real refused to accept the £17million signing-on fee demanded by Rudiger’s agent and have pulled out of the race. They believe that the centre-back area is properly covered and would rather go for a young defender who can serve them for years to come. That has opened up an opportunity for Man United to try their hand at landing Rudiger.
The German will see his contract with the Blues come to an end at the end of the current season. He has received an offer worth £140,000-a-week but is demanding a larger salary package. Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are keeping tabs on his situation and would pose a stern challenge to Man United. PSG especially have “put a lot of effort” to facilitate a move as they look to take advantage of the situation.
Rudiger to Old Trafford?
There are some major challenges for us to overcome before getting the centre-back’s signature, and it would not be made easy regardless of this update. The Blues ace would move to a direct rival if he joins us, which alone details the difficulty in finalising such a transfer.
The Blues defender’s situation is unlike Nemanja Matic’s, as the latter was almost past his prime when we signed him. The former is still performing at the top and has a lot of years in his playing career. Moving to Old Trafford would pretty much ruin his relationship with the Chelsea supporters.
Not to mention, he has a kind of debt to Tuchel, who had revived his career, having been sidelined by Frank Lampard. That makes you wonder if he would prefer to join us over teams like the Paris based club and Bayern, who are European powerhouses.

But if the Manchester board somehow signs the German international, he would instantly raise the quality of our defence. A reliable;e ball carrier, he will also help us build attacks from the back.
Our defensive set-up has looked exposed at times, and Rudiger could solve most of the issues that are visible at the moment. It remains to be seen where he would end up next summer and who knows, we might get him if the stars align in our favour.
