Brandon Williams revealed his reason to leave Manchester United in the summer
According to The Athletic, Brandon Williams revealed that lack of game time at Manchester United pushed him to join Norwich in the summer.
Brandon Williams rose to fame in the 2019/20 season. The then-teenager played 42 games in total for the Red Devils. Furthermore, he bagged one goal and seven assists in that campaign. The English left-back even started the semi-final in the Europa League against Sevilla. It looked like the youngster had success in cementing his place in the position ahead of Luke Shaw.
However, the following season hasn’t been easy on the defender. United signed Alex Telles to bolster full back option. On the other hand, Luke Shaw flourished and started giving top-notch performances consistently. It was convincing enough for axed manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær who made Shaw his first-choice left-back. This move saw Brandon fall from the pecking order and only managed to make 19 appearances across all competitions. Brandon joined Norwich in the summer on a season-long loan and has rejuvenated his form. In a recent interview, the British player revealed why he opted for a United exit.
“I came to the point where I was at the age of needing to play football, not just sit there and lose years.”
Even though the British youngster agreed that being in the United squad would help him a lot in the future, however gaining top-flight match experience became more important in the short term.
“I know being there and training with some of the best players in the world is good, but it is in the games where you learn a lot and get the experience, so I needed to get out and play. I just had to focus on myself. Thankfully the manager let me go.”
After the arrival of Ralf Rangnick, Diego Dalot has shown some convincing performances lately. The Portuguese player has been getting consistent chances to feature at the backline. Thus, if Brandon stayed, it would have been massive difficult for him to compete against the veteran players for a place.
