Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick sends a transfer message to Anthony Martial following recent developments

Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has responded with a stern message to the transfer comments from the agent of Anthony Martial in his pre-match press conference ahead of the clash against Brentford. He gave a clear verdict on the situation that has unravelled over the past week.

Martial has never really got going since his move to Old Trafford bar the 2019-20 season, where he was predominantly used as a striker. He has been on the sidelines due to various reasons like injuries, fitness issues or just not being preferred by his coach. His agent Philippe Lamboley revealed on Friday that his client wanted to leave the club to gain regular minutes elsewhere.

Speaking in the pre-match presser (h/t ESPN), Rangnick conveyed the right way to talk about matters like this and sent a message to the Frenchman. He added that the players should either contact the club or the coach on topics like this and not to the media.

Ralf Rangnick sent a clear message to Anthony Martial.

“I don’t communicate with agents via the media and press. The player hasn’t spoken with me or us about it. To be honest, what his agent says via the media is not of that much interest to me. It should be the player.”

Clear verdict

The German gave a clear stance on the situation, and the way the agent went about his client’s desire does not paint a good picture at all. Matters like this should be addressed with the club instead of revealing them to the media.

“IF HE REALLY HAS THE WISH TO GO TO ANOTHER CLUB IT SHOULD BE THE PLAYER WHO INFORMS EITHER THE BOARD OR MYSELF. I HAVE NEVER SPOKEN ABOUT A PLAYER VIA THE MEDIA AND VIA AGENTS.”

A professional would have made his case clear and put in a former transfer request to the club. And in the Frenchman’s case, looking at the options available, there is no reason that the Red Devils would keep him at the club against his will. It is not like he is a world-beater who can contribute better than others in the squad.

That is especially the case with the summer signings who got added to the squad and the youngsters who are coming through the ranks. Not to mention, the system used by the 63-year-old does not call for an excess amount of forwards in the team. That helps us facilitate a move for the 26-year-old attacker in the coming transfer windows.

It remains to be seen whether we would let the France international leave in January with the intentions being revealed from his camp.
