Fabrizio Romano reveals Manchester United have ruined the transfer plans of AS Roma amidst potential move for Diogo Dalot in January
Speaking to the United Stand, as quoted by The Express, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Manchester United have sent a clear message to AS Roma stating that Diogo Dalot is an important player at the club amidst a potential move in January.
The 22-year-old star struggled for game-time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He sealed a loan move to AC Milan last season but stayed back at Old Trafford this summer as a deputy to Aaron wan-Bissaka.
However, the Norwegian boss rarely played the full-back. But things have changed since Ralf Rangnick’s appointment, with the German starting him against Crystal Palace and Norwich City. AS Roma have been interested in a loan move for the Portuguese international in January.
Jose Mourinho is looking to reunite with his former disciple in Italy but it looks like Man United are set to derail those plans. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Red Devils have made it clear to the Serie A outfit that the right-back is an important player at the club.
Finally living up to his potential
Dalot was signed in 2018 under the tutelage of Mourinho. However, the former Chelsea boss was sacked in the same season, after which the right-back fell down the pecking order.
In the following summer, Solskjaer signed Wan-Bissaka, and the Englishman has been the starter in the past two years. However, the Portuguese ace is enjoying much more time out in the sun with Rangnick at the helm.
The German prefers to play high-intensity football with attacking flair. The former Porto man has that in his locker and has impressed in recent weeks. He was arguably the best player on the pitch against Palace and created several chances against Norwich.

Although he is yet to be tested against the big teams, the 22-year-old has formed an important part of the setup. Thus, letting him leave mid-season would be an unwise decision, especially if we do not bring in a replacement.
Wan-Bissaka could use backup and competition. And that is if Dalot hasn’t already replaced the former Crystal Palace man as the German manager’s first-choice right-back.
