David ce Gea has helped Manchester United to defeat Norwich City by a 1-0 scoreline, and his excellent display has garnered him praise from skipper Harry Maguire. The victory gave the former a well earned clean sheet which was not always the case this season, even when he played well.

The Red Devils climbed up to fifth in the Premier League table with 27 points from 16 matches and are tied with West Ham United, who are in the fourth position. The latter, however, have a game in hand, which would make it a bit tough for the Red Devils to retain their Champions League spot.

Man United were far from the better team as some may believe that Norwich should have earned at least one point. And you cannot fault them for it, given that they were up against a struggling Canaries side.

The only highlight from the first half was a free-kick from Alex Telles that hit the post after getting deflected on the way. Dean Smith’s side ramped up the pressure in the second half, which called for de Gea to step up numerous times. Teemu Pukki and Ozan Kabak had their shots saved, which could have crept in if not for the keeper.

Cristiano Ronaldo ended up decisive for the Manchester club, having scored a penalty after getting fouled in the box by Max Aarons. According to Manchester Evening News, the performance from the 31-year-old prompted the skipper to praise him in the post-match press conference.

“We’ve been very disappointed with our defensive record this year. We know we need to do better. David de Gea did great today. The most important thing was the three points. It was tough conditions, they put us under pressure they were aggressive. If we keep a clean sheet, you’ve got a great chance of winning.”

We have got our second clean sheet under Ralf Rangnick, tying with what we earned under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the prior few months. The performance however as a whole was lacking in intent and purpose. Thankfully we come away with all three points.

Our next two matches are against Brentford and Brighton and Hove Albion, respectively, and we would need to raise our level to have a better chance of winning those games. Thomas Frank’s side are a newly promoted team, but they have been high flying this season and could pose a challenging threat.

Graham Potter is infamous for what he has done with Brighton and, that should tell the whole picture. A good showing could instil more confidence among the fans and the team, and we should eye to achieve that.
