Ralf Rangnick slams Paul Pogba decision as Manchester United medical department is given new directive
Ralf Rangnick has delivered a verdict to change the procedures at the Manchester United medical department after learning about the decision taken by Paul Pogba. The duo spoke with each other on Tuesday via phone, ahead of Pogba’s return to the United Kingdom.
The German asked the medical department to carry out players’ recovery and rehabilitation at Carrington and not allow them to leave elsewhere. Pogba had left for Dubai after getting permission to carry out his rehabilitation after picking up a thing injury during the international break.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference (h/t ESPN), Rangnick compared the current situation at Old Trafford to his previous affiliations and conveyed the differences. He added how it is essential the players would carry out their rehab within the club, which will be the case in the future.
“My former clubs were always trying to make sure the rehab should take place in the club itself. I would not want players to do their rehab abroad or anywhere else, but the decision on Paul was taken before I came.”
Rangnick’s decision to keep his squad centralized is a good move. He has already acknowledged the prowess of the Red Devils medical team and given the facilities on offer, there is little reason for players to go elsewhere. The wings of change are happening around Old Trafford and this is yet another good move made by the interim boss.
“In the future, and I have already spoken to the medical department, I want players with injuries, and hopefully we don’t get long-term injuries, but if we have them in the future I want them to stay here.”
Big changes
The 63-year-old has already made his mark and has lived up to his infamous standards. That was the case at his previous clubs, regardless of whether he was a manager or an administrative member. It also tells us how the Glazers were open to delegating control to the new man in charge.
This decision would help him to monitor the progress made by the injured players personally while tweaking the procedures to suit their recovery. It is always good to make sure ourselves even if a similar job is done elsewhere. In this scenario, we can be sure that the squad would get the maximum attention and assistance during their setbacks.

As the Man United boss prefers a heavy metal style of football, it could be imperative that their rehab is done in a specific way to maintain the workload. Sports complexes do not usually have all the data surrounding a player as it would be exclusive to the clubs for obvious reasons. In some cases, this could play a part in the occurrence of follow up injuries, and the new development would extinguish that possibility to a greater extent.
