According to transfer news on ESPN (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United next summer.

The 28-year-old has suffered for minutes this season despite performing well as an impact substitute. Lingard was key in the victories against West Ham, Villarreal, and Atalanta. However, he is yet to earn a league start.

He also has just over six months on his current contract at Old Trafford. It is thought that he does not want to sign an extension and end his time at his boyhood club. This would make the winger eligible to talk to foreign clubs in January and even sign a pre-contract over a potential move next summer.

The Englishman is not short of suitors, with several Premier League clubs interested in hiring his services. Tottenham Hotspur are apparently ahead of the ‘queue’ to seal a free transfer for Lingard next summer.

Antonio Conte is starting his new era at Spurs and could bring in exciting talent through the door in 2022. Moreover, the Italian has a track record of winning titles everywhere he goes.

However, the English international wants to start on a weekly basis at his next club, something that might not be guaranteed in North London. Everton, Newcastle United, and West Ham are also interested in orchestrating a deal for the United academy graduate.

The attacker spent the second half of last season on loan at the London stadium and could seal a permanent move this time around. Everton are also building slowly under Rafa Benitez and remain a viable project. Newcastle are the richest club in the world and could offer a hefty pay package to lure the 28-year-old to St. James’ Park.

This move would be a blow for the Red Devils. They might have liked to churn out a transfer fee for the player in January, but if he settles on a summer move, they shall have to let go of the Englishman for nothing in the summer.
