According to transfer news on AS (h/t The Sun), Manchester United could have to spend £295m to secure the services of Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.

The 21-year-old star striker has been in incredible form for the last year and a half. The youngster has taken the Bundesliga by storm and already has 13 goals to his name this season. Moreover, he has also ripped apart the big teams in the Champions League.

Thus, he is a guaranteed goal-scorer. However, that means he will not come cheap despite his measly release clause. It is thought that the Norwegian shall be available for £64m next summer. However, it will apparently take nearly £85m to complete the deal.

This is before factoring in the agent fees and the wages. The centre-forward is set to demand £800k-per-week (£42m per year). If he does sign a five-year contract, Haaland’s next club shall be shelling out £210m in wages alone for the young star.

The player’s agent, Mino Raiola, and father, Alf Inge Haaland, shall also pocket their fees. This shall be a huge blow for Man United. The Red Devils still have a net debt of £439.7m, and their wages shot up by 23% this season in the first quarter.

The rise in wages was due to the additions of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Raphael Varane. If the Old Trafford outfit lures the Dortmund ace to Manchester, it will only raise the financial commitment of the club.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might be keen on reuniting with his former Molde pupil. Moreover, Edinson Cavani could leave once his contract expires, and Ronaldo shall be six months away from turning 38. Anthony Martial has also looked off the paces this season.

Thus, signing a No 9 with the ilk of Haaland would be a smart decision, but United would need to find a way to balance the books.
