AS Roma chief Tiago Pinto fails to rule out move for Manchester United star Diogo Dalot in January
Speaking to Sky Italy (h/t Daily Mail), AS Roma chief Tiago Pinto refused to address their interest in Manchester United star Diogo Dalot amidst a potential move in January.
The 22-year-old defender has suffered for minutes under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season. Despite being kept at the club to compete for a spot with Aaron wan-Bissaka, Dalot has been used scarcely.
However, the defender could now be on his way out of the club in January. Roma are thought to be pondering over a move for the full-back, with Jose Mourinho keen on bringing his former pupil to Italy. The Portuguese international already has some experience of playing in the league, after spending the 2019/20 season on loan at AC Milan.
But despite the player being linked with the Italian club, Roma chief Tiago Pinto has refused to address those claims. He told Sky Italy (h/t Daily Mail):
‘I don’t like talking about players from other clubs, I do not like talking publicly about transfer strategies. On the market, we cannot create great expectations for January because we all know what the January market is like.’
Mourinho has previously labelled the youngster as the ‘best young full-back in Europe’, indicating his admiration for the player. Dalot is yet to kickstart his career in the Premier League, and a move could be the right option.

However, United might hold all the cards in negotiations and could be looking to churn out a reasonable transfer fee. Additionally, it would not be a smart move to let the Portuguese leave the club unless a replacement is signed.
Once Axel Tuanzebe, Brandon Williams, and Ethan Laird return next season from their respective loan moves, a deal could be considered as it would benefit all the concerned parties.
