Manchester United ready to part ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and make Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers first-choice replacement

According to the Manchester Evening News (h/t The Metro), Manchester United have accepted that they will let Ole Gunnar Solskjaer leave at the end of the season with Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers named as a first-choice replacement.

It has been a disastrous start to the season, and it could not be long before Solskjaer faces the sack. We should have been competing for the league title but the club are currently 9 points off the top of the table already.

However, sacking him would entail paying him £4.5million in compensation. Thus, United are waiting till the end of the season to see if the Norwegian can turn things around. If he fails to do so, the board already have a name in mind to replace him.

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers is admired by the hierarchy. His playing style, ability to promote youth, and capability to work on a budget are appreciated are commendable.

Moreover, he has more than enough experience of managing in the Premier League. He has been at Swansea previously before leading Liverpool close to a league title. In 2019, he joined Leicester after a lot of success with Celtic.

He has since managed to help them secure two fifth-place finishes in the league and the FA Cup trophy. Although they are not stellar achievements, Solskjaer is yet to win silverware at United in comparison.

But if the Manchester-based club is to hire Rodgers, they shall have to pay the King Power outfit compensation too as the Northern Irishman is committed to the club until 2023. Erik Ten Hag and Luis Enrique are also viable options if they cannot lure the 48-year-old out of the Midlands club.

Thus, Solskjaer may have time until the end of the season, but if the performances do not pick up, he might force the club’s hand to sack him earlier than they would have liked to.
