Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo gives his jersey to a young fan after representing Portugal in what turned out to be a frustrating draw against the Republic of Ireland in their latest World Cup qualifier.
The veteran forward has become a household legend for his nation having amassed a mind-boggling 115 goals in 183 appearances across all competitions for the Portuguese National football team. Even at 36, he continues to be an assuring leader and a graceful presence both on and off the pitch.
A Seleção were held to a frustrating draw against Ireland with both teams unable to break the deadlock at the final whistle. Cristiano Ronaldo and his team are currently sitting at the top of their table after playing 7 matches in the Group A of the 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup qualifiers. His team have come through unscathed in this campaign so far and are yet to be beaten.
Unfortunately, the 36-year-old attacker hasn’t been enjoying the same kind of results with his club despite putting in his best performances time and again. The Red Devils have lacked any real attacking endeavor against the bigger clubs in the Premier League this season. Their humiliating losses to Liverpool and Manchester City are testimony to the aforementioned point.
The Portuguese forward has been an isolated figure at times and his frustration may have boiled over on occasions in England’s top flight this season. In an interview with talkSPORT (h/t The Sun), Former Manchester City player Trevor Sinclair also blasted Ronaldo for a coward’s challenge on Kevin De Bruyne.
While those actions may have been questionable, his recent decision to give away his jersey to a young fan is certainly winning hearts on the internet. This goes to show the kind of love that he has for the game. Fellow Man United and Portugal teammate Bruno Fernandes also failed to make a huge impact in the draw to the Irish National football team.
