Manchester United board have held no talks with other managers and still support Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
According to Fabrizio Romano, a majority of the Manchester United board are still backing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and haven’t been in contact with any prospective managers.
There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the managerial role at Old Trafford. The Red Devils started the season in great fashion and supporters were filled with joy after the emotional homecoming of Cristiano Ronaldo. They also added exciting players like Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane to their ranks in the last transfer window.
Despite the heavy backing and support, Ole has failed to carve out consistent results with this team. Their inefficiency was highlighted in their losses to major rivals Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League in recent weeks. There were even reports suggesting that the 48-year-old’s position at Old Trafford may be at risk with the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Ralf Rangnick being linked to Manchester United.
In a recent piece by Caught Offside (h/t Express), it has been suggested that Brendan Rodgers has already had a ‘verbal agreement’ with the Red Devils to take over. There has been a lot of confusion over the managerial role at Old Trafford after the international break.
Despite all these rumours, Romano claims that the Manchester United board haven’t met with any other managers. This may give the Norwegian some more time to prove that he still has what it takes to lead the Red Devils into a new era. Ole has had a roller coaster in the last few seasons and is yet to win a major trophy with Manchester United as manager.
The Former Molde FK manager took over from Jose Mourinho and was initially received with a lot of joy and enthusiasm. His side have been leaking a lot of goals at the back and he tried to shore things up by tweaking his formation against the Citizens. That change didn’t do his side many favours as a surprising own goal from Eric Bailly gave the visitors the lead before Bernardo Silva’s strike meant City could take their foot off the pedal in the second half.

It seems as though Solskjaer may still be the manager for the immediate future but he would have to breathe new life into these players if he is to secure the job for a longer time. Man United have been prone to a lot of inconsistency in the past and will have to pull up their socks if they are to compete on a more consistent level against the bigger clubs.
