Manchester United could secure a transfer for Ousmane Dembele as player’s agent delays contract talks with Barcelona
According to Spanish outlet Sport (h/t Mirror), Manchester United could go head-to-head with Chelsea for Ousmane Dembele as the player’s agent delays contract talks with Barcelona.
The Frenchman was a wonder talent during his Borussia Dortmund days, so much so that the Blaugrana club splashed out £135million to sign the youngster in the summer of 2017.
However, that move has not worked out yet, with Dembele suffering through a string of injuries during his time in Spain. His time at the Camp Nou might now be over as the winger has only over 6 months on his current contract with the Catalonia club.
United have been linked with the player recently and their chase for the talent has been on since the attacker’s Dortmund days. Then, Jose Mourinho wanted to sign the French international in his second season at Old Trafford, but the 5-time European Champions instead secured his signature, according to The Sun (h/t The Express).
But the Red Devils have now been handed the opportunity to land Dembele again, and a move could very well be on the cards.
The 24-year-old’s agent is apparently delaying talks with Barcelona over a new contract. If a new deal is not signed by the end of this year, the winger could sign a pre-contract with any foreign club in January and seal a free transfer next summer.

In fact, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could use the talents of a technician like the former Dortmund ace, especially if both Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani depart the club next summer on the expiry of their contracts.
Moreover, with Cristiano Ronaldo turning 37 next year, an attacker at the peak of his abilities could be brought in to add more spice to the attack. Thus, the Red Devils will be hoping Dembele rejects the La Liga club’s contract extension offers so that they can snap him up on a cut-price fee in January or on a free transfer next summer.
