Rio Ferdinand places equal blame on Manchester United for Paul Pogba contract trouble
Speaking on his YouTube channel “Vibe with FIVE” (h/t Manchester Evening News), Rio Ferdinand explained how Manchester United must be blamed equally for the contract situation of Paul Pogba.
The 28-year-old joined the Old Trafford outfit for a club-record fee worth £89million in 2016 from Juventus, and the midfielder was the addition that was supposed to propel the club to glory again.
Although he has dazzled the fans with his tricks, flicks, and incredible goals & assists in the last five years, he is yet to win a league title or pick up a Champions League title with his boyhood club.
The midfielder is also in the final year of his contract now, and United have not been able to tie the player down to a new deal. If he fails to put pen to paper on a renewed contract by the end of this year, he will be eligible to talk to foreign clubs. Rio Ferdinand has now claimed that United must be blamed equally for this horrid situation they are in with the player.
“But I would say that it’s been a failure of the club as well. Because when you see him (Pogba) for France, what he does for France, you can’t tell me it’s not there. So, when you spend the money you spent on someone like that you build around him, and you put the team in a position that he’s going to actually be able to produce his best football.
“I don’t think that any manager has been able to unlock him in a red shirt in the Man United team. I wouldn’t commit if I was him. I’ve got to be honest, I wouldn’t.”

The French international has been touted for a move to Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain recently, and Pogba’s exit might not exactly be a good thing for the Red Devils.
Given that he has already laid on seven assists in just as many league starts this season, he will be crucial to the club going deep into the UCL or even competing for the Premier League title in the coming years. However, only time will tell where the former Juventus man plays his football in 2022.
